Fishing Report from TPWD (Jan. 8)

GOOD. Water stained; 50 degrees; 0.10 feet below pool. Winter finally arrived in North Texas. Water temperatures are falling into the upper 40s to low 50s. If you do venture out, make sure you are prepared for the weather. If you see dead or dying fish please call the 24-hour Communication Center for TPWD immediately, 512-389-4848, or report to the Brazos River Authority. The colder weather will bring on the bite for striped and white bass on many areas of the lake. The colder water will push much of the baitfish to the deeper areas. Small striped bass and sand bass numbers are good on the lower ends on soft plastics 3-5 inch swimbaits or flukes. Bigger striped and white bass are staging midlake. Colder weather will bring on the bite for the big blues and yellow catfish on the upper ends using cut shad. Crappie are being caught on small jigs and minnows mid-lake near structure and in the river near Tin Top. Largemouth bass are still good near main lake points and in the river near laydowns on soft plastics worked slowly. Report by Michael Acosta, Unfair Advantage Charters.
